MakeHaven Main Space

The make-a-thon is a two day celebration and marathon of making. Participants will work on teams to create something wonderful. At the end of the day everyone will come together and show off what they have made. There will be prizes and celebration. 

Building a Smarter New Haven

How we think about and experience transportation is likely to undergo radical change in the coming years. Right now cities like New Haven are trying to anticipate the infrastructure that will be needed in the next few decades. Because of the rapid change of technology those predictions are difficult, yet new technologies also hold tremendous possibility for improving city life.

Join other interested in microprocessors and electronics. We will do brief introductions and brainstorm projects before breaking out to do group work and learning. 

Silk Screen T-shirt Make It! $25

*B-A-M!* express yourself! This class will show you how, in black and white. 

You will learn how to hand cut transparencies to create a print which will be transferred on a T-shirt, using a silk screen. 

To help get you started with the basics, MakeHaven will have some basic designs available to inspire you. You will make a T-shirt print from these to learn the basics of how to silk screen on your own. You will also learn how to make your own stencil in the class.

 

Basic Beer Brewing

Basic Brewing Principles $25

This workshop is for the beginning home brewer and is designed to introduce basic concepts, techniques and terminology to class participants. Designed to provide the working knowledge to complete an initial batch of extract beer. In this class, you will learn how to make a one gallon batch of beer from start to finish. A bottling demonstration and tasting will be on Thursday, 2/18th, 6 - 9 p.m.

Intro to Woodshop Safety and Best Practices

Led by Jacob Lewallen, this class will be a comprehensive introduction to the machines and tools in the woodshop at MakeHaven. It's a great way for new members to learn about the space, safety, and best practices. This class is great for beginner beginners and those wanting a shop safety refresher.

Community Animators, Ready to Rock and Roll

I am excited to announce that we have five enthusiastic volunteers to animate our community. 
 
What does it mean to be a Community Animator? It means they have each committed to being at MakeHaven 3 hours per week over the next 6 months to help people learn and inspire members to make the most of our space. Each has a focus area and will be a resource for actives in that focus. Let me make the introductions:

Learn the Basics of Mold Making and Casting

This no-cost mold making and casting seminar will introduce attendees to a new world of material possibility and how to work with rubbers, plastics, foams and gypsums are used for a variety of applications including:

Reproducing Sculpture - Casting Concrete - Prototype Model Making - Theatrical Props - Architectural Restoration - Life Casting - Robotics - Medical - Toy Making - Movie Special Effects - Culinary - Casting Wax.

Seminar will include hands-on demonstration and instruction on mold making during the two hour presentation.

Maker Year Challenge

MakeHaven has a challenge for you. Can you prove your maker skills by doing one project per month for the year? Starting in January for every month in 2016 I will be putting forth instructions for how to do a project. These projects with use all the different capabilities of the space. Those who succeed in doing all the projects will come out as skilled master maker. The list of projects is still developing but here is an idea of what will be on the list.
