Replace Broken Sewing Machines with Durable Metal Machines (Such as Necchi)

Submitted by Catherine Caze… on

We have discussed among the sewing team. We really think we should replace the existing donated sewing machines which keep failing by buying at least three reliable new sewing machines. We have all worked with Necchi's during the Threads and Needles program and are very familiar with them. Catherine can obtain them locally at a discounted price. We think they are sound sewing machines that have all metal parts and therefore do not break easily, like the Kenmore. We think this is important considering the frequency of use.

Monoprice MP10 - Replace the AFP-512 ($300)

Submitted by Kyle Glose on

The AFP-512 has a LOT of issues, from the extruder frequently clogging, the bed being impossible to level due to warping, and the electrical connectors on the hotend degrading. The design of the bed leveling is also poor, only having three knobs instead of four (by design), each of which changes the tilt of the bed along multiple axes, making it very difficult to get the whole print surface level. This has led to this printer being down more than up.

Screenprinting is a printmaking process that allows you to print on just about any flat surface, including garments such as T-shirts. The images are created by pushing ink through a stencil, creating a the look that is often colorful and bold. The image can be reprinted many times fairly quickly. The process can easily be duplicated at home with the right equipment and a small amount of DIY initiative.
