1st Floor Room
This educational room has seating and tables suitable for instruction away from the noise of the main workshop. It is located on the first floor of 770 Chapel Street. Guests should ring the MakeHaven doorbell, then proceed down the long hallway. When you get the main MakeHaven staircase by the double elevators, rather than go downstairs, proceed through the double glass doors, take a right down the hallway and you will see a room with a big robot sticker on the door.
This workshop introduces you to basic skills with a focus on font characteristics and an intention to lead you to study the way to draw and build letter forms and symbols.
You will learn the Art of Hand lettering" with readily available, inexpensive brushes and acrylic paint by employing tried and true "old-school" signpainter tricks combined with today's computer technologies.

Students will learn by demonstrating brush technique and manipulation and to hand letter on a substrate.
The Art of Hand Lettering will be applied our end task of designing and painting a personal sign for home or business. We will also choose simple silhouettes to enhance your designs.
No knowledge of lettering required. Basic knowledge of graphic art software, ie Adobe Illustrator or Corell Draw is helpful as is access to a computer and printer.
This workshop happens over four consecutive two hour classes. Participants will leave with a completed sign and a handout.
