Wishes

MakeHaven Wishes is where members suggest ideas to improve our space—new tools, policies, events, or even wild ideas. Members can vote on their favorites, and staff review these to help guide priorities. While votes matter, feasibility, funding, and alignment with our mission also play a role in decisions.

  • New Equipment: Tools or machines for MakeHaven.
  • Lending Library: Tools members can borrow.
  • Policy/Operations: Suggestions for how we run things.
  • Space Infrastructure: Facility improvements.
  • Events & Activities: Workshops or community gatherings.
  • Wild Ideas: Out-of-the-box suggestions.

Reviewed and Declined - Considered but decided not to move forward.
Not Right Now - The answer is "no" but we may reassess in the future.
Research Needed - Maybe, let's look into it and understand more.
Planned Long Term - We intend to make it happen but may be lower priority or waiting on funding.
As Funding/Logistics Allow - Implementation dependent on available funding and logistics.
In Development - We are actively working to make it happen right now.
Implemented - It or similar has happened. See the "Implemented" tab for details.

It'd be great if we could download Glaze and Nightshade onto one of the media computers. Both are programs that artists can use to apply anti-AI filters onto their images to discourage people from scraping their art to train AI. Both are free programs, but most people don't have the graphics card needed to run it.

The "must-have" tool for building off-grid systems and lithium battery pack assembly. This is a "must-have" tool for various projects that require large gauge wiring, like home renovation, building off-grid electrical systems, solar & solar generators, e-bikes, etc. "Hammer" type crimpers struggle to create reliable connections and the majority of Chinese hydraulic crimpers are sold with dies that are not properly sized for AWG. TEMCo crimpers are properly sized for AWG wires and very reliable, based on reviews. The best tool should be able to crimp as large as 4/0 AWG lugs and as small as 6 AWG (or smaller) to be versatile.

A flat and uniform support for the glass is essential to avoid cracking. The Waterjet Brick works well for cutting glass. Cut on top of Waterjet Brick to avoid frosting the back side of the glass with slat splashback. Avoids the risk of sprayback from slat deflection as much as possible. If the precautions are not taken to avoid sprayback, the glasspiece can be frosted or broken outright because of the spray pressure from the deflection.

FormLabs Build Platform 2 is a new build platform with a flexible print service designed to make it easier to remove parts. Getting parts off of the existing build platform is a tremendous hassle, and frequently results in minor injuries to parts and the user. The new build platform flexes and causes the parts to just snap right off. We could start with just one for the most popular resin, or order multiple. The platforms are $299 each. I think starting with just one for either the white or tough resin might make sense. For all three resins it would be $687 + $12.56 shipping.

Found a cheaper press! With an open sided die!

Just a little smooshy boi, why not?

Less loud than a power hammer and just as good at most knifemaking or other forging work. This would be a very good addition to an Induction Forge and the Kiln. We could forge steel without as much effort, only doing hand forging when necessary.

It would be great to have a larger laser, a more powerful laser, and a fiber laser (which can mark metal). This laser is expensive, but it checks all of those boxes: The Epilog FusionPro 48 Dual (120W CO2/50W Fiber). It has lots of great features (https://www.epiloglaser.com/laser-machines/fusion-pro-laser-series.htm), and a cut area of 48" x 36".

a temperature setting/regulator laminator

13" Laminator Machine, Four Roller, 110VAC 600 watts operating Temperature 80-180C degrees

available on eBay item #393246262909

price..85.00 plus tax, Free Shipping..

Unit is unlabeled.. but made by Pouch

Although this unit is made for laminating plastic.... it will work for transferring b/w toner onto copper

I would like it to be labeled for that purpose only on the Electronics bench..

I am concerned that using it for other purposes may cause problems when making PCBs

Hand planes are intimidating to work with if one doesn't know how. I own a few and never know if I have it set up properly or not. People can bring their own planes and use the Tormek to sharpen their blades.

Magically sew binding (e.g. grosgrain) to the edge of fabric!

I'd be most interested in the 3/4" size, but could poll #textile to see what other people want.

This is a great tool for control freaks. Here's some highlights from their website.
The LS Positioner is made from anodized aluminum and is micro-adjustable for precise fence placement (within 0.002" over the full range), and a wheel micro-adjusts in 0.001" increments during set-up.

This will allow us to create battery based projects such as DIY battery banks or power backups. Heat based soldering guns can be dangerous when used on batteries, but a quick spot weld pulse is much safer.
