The Shapeoko 2 is a tabletop CNC router in the works. It will be available as a kit for $300, or as a pre-assembled product for $650. We're raising money to purchase one for Makehaven. Our preference would be to raise enough to purchase the Shapeoko, and also some bits.

More information about the Shapeoko can be found here:

Data Mapping New Haven

Submitted by Robert Narracci on

Hi Guys, As a favor to the New Haven Independent I've been working on a an Excel file that can express voter data as a heat map (ward by ward). I've been able to push a ward map PDF through illustrator, clean it up, bring it into Excel and explode it into shapes, but can't figure out how to transfer color fills from data cells into the shapes with VBA. I would like the data set cells to be expressed with heat map color ranges using conditional formatting, and then to read the conditional formats and push them into the shapes.

Remote Control Car build

Submitted by Dan Kops on

I'm forming a small project team to customize a remote control car.

Specifically, I propose we design a car from chassis up and fabricate much of it using the makerbots and laser cutters. I'd like to recruit someone(s) with electronics expertise to help with custom circuitry.

These cars are really cool. I've built a 1/18 scale electric that hit 60. We could exceed that, if the team is determined.

Perfect "vehicle" to learn more about Inventor and the makerbots. I'm thinking weekly meetings, but I'm open to ideas. I'm also flexible on project goals.

Mini-golf Hole for ArtSpace

Submitted by [current-user:… on

Brad Conant and I (Karen Bliss) are planning to represent MakeHaven by designing and buiding one hole for a mini-golf course for an art installation at ArtSpace.  ArtSpace is excited for MakeHaven to be involved, and will be giving us some good press in exchange.  We'll be putting the logo on the hole and probably printing some golf balls for the event.  Local artists will make the other holes, and the course will be at ArtSpace through November.

Hack New Haven Public Transit Maps

Submitted by Ben Berkowitz on

Hello Folks,

I would like to propose an event to Hack CT Transit's mapping literature. The current brochures for route infprmation are complicated and signage at stops is not informative.

My proposal is to take a big step at resolving this in a 1 day event.

Here's my thoughts on how the event would work:

1) Teams form by home neighborhood

2) Teams get together on a Saturday am and attempt to take the bus downtown to MakeHaven

3) Teams design maps, route literature and other way finding mechanisms at makehaven

organize and inventory the space

Submitted by Jonathan Wiggl… on

We'll be organizing items and materials in the space roughly along the categories listed below. As we sort items, we'll be doing our best to establish ownership, tag it, and enter it into the website inventory system. Our end goal is to have an obvious and documented location for every item in the space, for every item in the space to be tagged, and for it to be tagged with owner and usage info.

MakeHaven Facade Facelift

Submitted by [current-user:… on

We will need a party of folks to scrape, repair, and paint the front facade.  This project is very important as it's a condition to a possible donation/investment into the space by an outside party.  We need the membership to coalesce (word of the day :P ) in order to meet this goal fairly quickly.

Ribbon Cutting Rocket

Submitted by Make Haven on

We are having our relaunch monday and we want the mayor to have something better than a regular ribbon cutting to kick it off.

One idea is to build a simple air powered rocket. We could decorate it with MakeHaven bling and fly it into a tower of cans or something?

There are some great plans out there but they would take some work (for example:http://blog.makezine.com/projects/make-compressed-air-rockets-kit/)
