Community Animators, Ready to Rock and Roll

I am excited to announce that we have five enthusiastic volunteers to animate our community. 
 
What does it mean to be a Community Animator? It means they have each committed to being at MakeHaven 3 hours per week over the next 6 months to help people learn and inspire members to make the most of our space. Each has a focus area and will be a resource for actives in that focus. Let me make the introductions:

Learn the Basics of Mold Making and Casting

This no-cost mold making and casting seminar will introduce attendees to a new world of material possibility and how to work with rubbers, plastics, foams and gypsums are used for a variety of applications including:

Reproducing Sculpture - Casting Concrete - Prototype Model Making - Theatrical Props - Architectural Restoration - Life Casting - Robotics - Medical - Toy Making - Movie Special Effects - Culinary - Casting Wax.

Seminar will include hands-on demonstration and instruction on mold making during the two hour presentation.

Maker Year Challenge

MakeHaven has a challenge for you. Can you prove your maker skills by doing one project per month for the year? Starting in January for every month in 2016 I will be putting forth instructions for how to do a project. These projects with use all the different capabilities of the space. Those who succeed in doing all the projects will come out as skilled master maker. The list of projects is still developing but here is an idea of what will be on the list.

  • Create engraved box on laser cutter
  • Scan and 3d print a model of yourself
  • Build a beverage carrier with hand tools
  • Create custom

The Hexibox Has Launched!

I just launched hexibox, a product I have been working on for over a year now! Hexibox is a lightweight, modular and low maintnance storage solution for individuals and businesses with lots of clutter and/or small parts to keep organized. Check us out at here! WONDER: Holiday Party at the Groove

Any event or activity that happens on the property of another orgnization. For example tours of factories, or other community events that we feature. 

MakeHaven members have been invited to The Grove to celebrate all the WONDERful things the holiday season brings! 



The halls will be decked in WONDERland style, while Raheem Nelson spins tunes. There'll be an epic holiday beverage and drink bar.

Show up as "The Most Interesting Person" at the party, when you present your host with a custom designed 6 pack case or 2 bottle (yes, 2, don't be cheap) wine carrier, that you created using a laser cutter.

Not only can you talk about the case, but you can tell folks about the place (talk up MakeHaven!), that you went to make the case. All this for $15.00, a bargain!

Brewing on HERMS

Will be doing a quick brew with a few friends. Good time to check out the brewing machine in action. We are planing to start promptly at 4pm and be wrapping up around 5:30.

Shapeoko Upgrade Build-out

We will look at the equipment we have, start to prepare a space for the construction and do some work on it if we feel we are ready to make progress.

Laser Cut Ornaments

The main makerspace and connected shops. This is located at 770 Chapel Street. Registered participants should ring the MakeHaven labeled doorbell. They will be directed down a long hallway, and down a set of stairs to our basement workshop.

We will introduce the principles of useing the laser, for example, when to use vector cutting or raster engraving models.

The designs will be compared and then analized to identify improvements on the design. 

Students can scan hand drawn images or can create an image that they want to use prior to class.

Students are asked to bring a laptop with Inkscape installed prior to class. Use of the MakeHaven computer will be available if arrangements are made prior to class.

Students will have 4 ornaments to take home or give as gifts.
