The woodshop and metalshop can be quite loud, even when wearing proper hearing protection. Sound-absorbing panels will reduce the noise level. More research needed to determine the best placement (closest to which equipment, walls vs. ceilings, etc), panel type (foam, cotton, fabric stretched over wood frames, etc), aesthetics, and cost. Perhaps we can perform a crude test by hanging blankets on the walls.

I have an idea for MakeHaven

Install two conduits along side of the building near the windows near the laser cutters going straight up to the roof level… one conduit for ac Power 220vac two phase. 50 Amp service. The second conduit, much larger and wider for all kinds of other cables….

For lending library and for use in digitizing art. With setup in media room for digitizing.

Our Tormach is decent, but not great. The Tormach 1100mx, a Haas, or something similar would be a huge improvement.

Computers for common use with beefy capabilities appropriate for running high end CAD programs.

Ever have the hunkering to make a large batch of tortillas?? How about homemade croissants? Roll out some pizza dough? We have a pasta roller, but the limited width makes it hard to do large batches or laminated dough. There are some nice tabletop 19" versions on etsy! Or some ambitious person could make one??!?

At the core of any bike framebuilding setup is a frame jig (technically a fixture, not a jig). Industry-standard frame jigs run at $3000-5000, but we can make our own for $500-600.

Many people need to get things to and from MakeHaven but often don't have a large car, or only bike. A pickup truck could be used by staff and members to get lumber, transport large scrap and pickup equipment. Ideally this truck would be kept in the parking garage next to MakeHaven.

I think it would open a lot of possibilities if we added castable wax resin to our FormLabs 3B supplies. For example, as a jeweler I do a lot of initial design work with 3D modeling and lost-wax casting. Make Haven doesn't have metal casting equipment, but there are lots of outside casting facilities that will accept shipped models. This sort of resin would enable Make Haven members to model directly for that purpose. It would also be well-paired with more basic wax-carving tools to add an entire new medium to MakeHaven's capabilities.

Sometimes when I want to head over and use a machine that requires a buddy, I show up and no one is in the space. It would be nice to be able to check in quickly and save myself a potential drive.

For assembling PCBs

As the Gerber CNC has been in development for over a year and projects larger than the Shapeoko can handle are inaccessible to members at the moment. A handheld CNC would allow a stop-gap to allow the working of much larger projects than can be contained within a table.

Moreover, as it is portable... it could conceivably be used offsite for outreach events and other engagements (provided that event sites have the proper power requirements).

There is interest in learning the fascinating traditional joinery used by Japanese woodworkers.
This could be a beginner & an advanced level presentation. Both hands on.

A number of people in the woodworking shop would benefit from demonstrations on how to achieve the joinery they desire for their project.

We could get great value out of shared/group subscriptions to digital resources, e.g. CAD libraries or even something as simple as a shared login to Fine Woodworking or Lynda courses. Could be a useful poll to send out!

We had one previously on loan from a member, but it is time to get our own. Ideally we get some good lighting for it too.

Why we do not have Adobe: A license is $330.00 per machine/ per year. If we install on the 4 computers plus 2 of the laser cutters that is $2,000 per year for the software. When you consider that Inkscape and Gimp are free and can be used by anyone for free at home too, it seems clear to me that our money and effort in teaching are better spent on the open source versions, even if they have more of a learning curve.

As you come down the stairs the floor looks pretty bad. It would be cool if there was some painted maker themed crest painted.

I love the view of the rocks out the windows, and noticed some have plants growing. What if we expand that and create a green growing wall. Ideally one of the windows could be converted to an access door.
