MakeHaven Main Space
The main makerspace and connected shops. This is located at 770 Chapel Street. Registered participants should ring the MakeHaven labeled doorbell. They will be directed down a long hallway, and down a set of stairs to our basement workshop.
In this 1.5hr presentation and conversation, learn the basics of costume design, like fabric choices, color, texture, hand, primary source research, how to save money on your costume, and how to read a commercial pattern.
Sarah and Megan will discuss many aspects of costume design, building off decades of experience. Participants are encouraged to bring ideas, problems and questions, as the conversation will center on the types (theatre, cosplay, etc) of costuming people are interested in. Something to take notes on is also encouraged.
Participants will also learn to do measurements (and walk away with their own).
Topics covered will include:
- What is costume design?
- What is the costume being used for?
- Developing a costume plot
- Character development
