- Jewelry Making Workbench Checkout Checklist
- General Safety Measures
- Ensure protective glasses are worn at all times when at the workbench.
- Maintain awareness of surroundings, avoiding accidental contact with other users or equipment.
- Refrain from using the workbench when fatigued, or under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
- Remember to switch off all power tools immediately after use.
- Promptly clean up spills to avoid accidents.
- Workbench Cleanliness and Maintenance
- After each use, clean the workbench surface using a damp cloth.
- Return all tools and materials to their appropriate storage areas when finished.
- Promptly report any workbench or equipment damage to a volunteer.
- Workbench Area Orientation
- Understand the layout of the workbench and its distinct areas.
- Identify the locations of the first aid kit, fire extinguisher, and emergency exits.
- Be aware of safety features including proper ventilation, adequate lighting, and ergonomic setup.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Recognize the importance of appropriate PPE such as safety glasses, gloves, and aprons.
- Know the storage locations for PPE and how to use it correctly.
- Tool Familiarization
- Identify and understand the proper usage of each tool available at the workbench.
- Remember safety protocols for each tool (e.g., usage of safety guards for saws, avoiding loose clothing or jewelry around rotating tools).
- Material Handling
- Know where materials are stored and how to handle them safely, especially sharp or potentially harmful ones.
- Understand the importance of careful material handling to prevent damage or injury.
- Proper Tool Usage
- Demonstrate accurate usage of each tool, ensuring comfort and knowledge of operation.
- Discuss specific safety concerns related to each tool (e.g., soldering tool operating temperatures, safe hand placement for saws).
- Clean-up Procedures
- Understand expectations for cleaning up after use, including correct disposal of materials and cleaning of tools.
- Know the location of cleaning supplies.
- Respect for Shared Space
- Understand the importance of maintaining a clean, usable space for the next user.
- Familiarize with any booking or scheduling procedures for the workbench.
- Emergency Procedures
- Learn what to do and whom to contact in an emergency.
- Know the procedure for reporting damaged equipment or issues with the workbench area.
- Remember, our jewelry making workbench is a shared space, so respect for other users is paramount. If you have any questions or concerns about safety or cleanliness, don't hesitate to ask a volunteer for assistance.
