Making the Makerspace

This is a picture of MakeHaven before we moved anything in. Its like a blank canvas. The possibilities are endless.

What the makerspace actually looks like will depend on what equipment we get and what the membership decides is the best way to organize. To get the conversation going I decided to draw some diagrams detailing my vision of how we could organize. The basic concept that I have is based on several areas that have all

3D Printer Build - Part 1

Submitted by jmanjohns2 on

Today we had a fantastic 3D printer building event. Ben, JR, and myself got to MakeHaven around 10 AM, turned on some tunes, and opened up a rather intimidating box of 3D printed parts:

Then we saw a pile of threaded metal rods:

First, we tried hacking at them:

Mixed Reality and 3d Object with Blender (Compositing)

There are several video out there that show a 3d animation rendered into real life. Here is an example:

Lots of people call this Compositing. I think it would be fun to do in with some video tha is clearly in New Haven and digitally add some object that is out of place. I am not sure what object would best. Mabye something from history.

Soldering Workshop

Submitted by J.R. Logan on

Make Haven member Frank Pelliccio brought in his soldering equipment to and allowed members to try it out. We practiced by removing components from circut boards and learned about his experiences printing circuit boards and programing micro-controlers. The teaching was very useful. I had tried removing soldering before but this was the first time I had someone with so much experience there to give tips.

3d Printer Construction (stage one)

Our first big project is going to be a 3D printer build. We have enough of the parts to begin a build, so we're going to start this Saturday and see where we get to. We'll get started at 10 AM and work until the mid afternoon, so drop in when you can. Please bring any side projects you might want to brainstorm or work on as not everyone can work on the printer at once. Feel free to bring music, laptops, you name it. We will discuss our bylaws draft with those members present after the event.

Our Own Makerspace

I really enjoyed the energy of the first move in day at MakeHaven. The location is perfect and very welcoming to street traffic. I foresee the upstairs having a large open flexible area, a creative lounge and work areas for electronics, robotics, crafts, and the link. The basement is well setup for storage and some wood working equipment.
