Got something broken? Don't toss it, let's fix it together!

MakeHaven is excited to host our Pilot Community Repair Fair, a hands-on event focused on empowering you to repair your beloved items!

We're thrilled to partner with the Yale Engineering, whose talented student volunteers will be on hand to share their skills and guide you through the repair process.

How It Works: The "Fix-It Clinic" Model

This isn't a drop-off service! Think of this as a collaborative learning workshop. You bring an item, and together with our volunteer coaches, you'll diagnose the problem and work towards a fix.

  • You participate: Be prepared to work on your item with guidance.
  • Volunteers guide: Our skilled volunteers are here to advise and assist, sharing their knowledge. They are enthusiastic helpers, not certified professionals.
  • Learn new skills: The goal is education and empowerment, reducing waste one repair at a time!
  • Take it home: All items must leave with their owners at the end of their slot; we cannot store items.

Registration Required - Book Your 30-Minute Slot!

To ensure everyone gets dedicated attention, advance registration is required for a specific 30-minute time slot between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM. Please use the links below to reserve your spot. Space is limited!
(Note: If you click a link and the slot is full, please return here and select another time.)

Cost: The event itself is free to attend! However, participants will be asked to cover the cost of any significant supplies used during their repair (e.g., replacement cords, plugs, solder, fabric, fasteners, etc.). Payment for supplies can be made on-site, cash or credit.

What Can We Help You Fix? (And What Should Stay Home?)
Our volunteers have diverse skills, but for this pilot event, we're focusing on items that can be reasonably diagnosed and repaired within the time slot. Please bring items you can comfortably carry and work on.

YES - Please Bring:

  • Lamps & Small Appliances: Items with broken cords (lamps, fans), toasters, coffee makers, clocks, blenders (with simple mechanical/electrical issues).
  • Textiles: Clothing/fabric items needing simple repairs like patching holes, sewing seams, replacing buttons or zippers.
  • Furniture & Wooden Items: Small items like chairs, tables, picture frames needing minor repairs (e.g., gluing, simple fasteners).
  • Jewelry & Accessories: Items needing restringing or clasp repair.
  • Items with Simple Mechanisms: Things with straightforward buttons, wires, or handles that are broken.

NO - Please Leave at Home:

  • Complex Electronics: Smartphones, tablets, computers, laptops, TVs, modern game consoles.
  • Microwaves: Due to safety complexities.
  • Anything with Gasoline Engines: Lawn mowers, etc.
  • Vehicles or Vehicle Parts.
  • Bicycles: We recommend our friends at the Bradley Street Bicycle Co-op for bike repairs!
  • Items needing welding (for this pilot event).
  • Anything leaking fluids or inherently unsafe.

Important Disclaimers - Please Read:

  • All repairs are attempted at the owner's risk.
  • Our volunteers are advisors offering guidance; they are not certified professionals, and MakeHaven provides no warranty or guarantee on repairs.
  • The repair process itself might sometimes cause further damage to an item.
  • MakeHaven and its volunteers accept no liability for the outcome of any repair attempt or the future safety/functionality of the item.
  • You will be asked to agree to liability waivers during registration (see below).

Let's work together to learn, repair, and keep useful items out of the landfill!
