UPDATE: I have ordered all the components for the Archivist and am going to begin the project. The fabrication should be quick, but I'm still interested in people to work with me on getting it working - particularly the software end.

I'm seriously considering making a book scanner, like this one The Archivist: A DIY Book Scanner [Make] , which has a thriving maker community with many modifications including this slick one made of aluminum.
The framing is well-documented and straight-forward. (We could CNC some of it. The designs are already in a dxf [linked file]) The part I'd hope for collaboration on would be the Raspberry Pi back-end and electronics. The opensource software is already available and, again, well-documented. Would anyone want to tackle this project with me?
