To get this badge, you must already have your FCC Radio License (Technician or higher). If you have this, you can take the quiz and schedule an appointment to get checked out to get access to the bench. Bring a copy of your FCC radio license to the appointment.

Community Facilitators are volunteers who to advise MakeHaven members on projects and show members how to use the tools.

Facilitator hours will be BY APPOINTMENT during their listed hours. To make an appointment, contact the facilitator directly via Slack. To prevent unnecessary space access during the pandemic, facilitators will not be in the space unless they have an appointment. Note that some facilitators are available only for online virtual appointments at this time. Any questions please email info@makehaven.org.

Calling all MakeHaven Hams:

 

Tuesday Nights between 6:30-7:30 pm is KW1MH Radio Bench Badging Time.

If you are a MakeHaven Member and a FCC Licensed Ham Radio Operator you are eligible to receive a Radio Badge after you complete the online quiz and  make an appointment with Brenda Brown KW1YL for a badging session.

You will receive personal, one on one, instruction on the use of the Radio Bench from Brenda KW1YL or Rich K1RSU.

When you are badged you will receive a Key that will allow you to power up the Radio Bench.

The Fact that you are a FCC licensed Radio Operator is most of the training you have already accomplished.

 

Initial Badging will include operating on the VHF and UHF Amateur Bands in FM simplex and via local FM repeaters, BASIC instruction on Powering and safe use of the VHF UHF Anytone 5888UV III Triband FM Tranceiver and Powering on The Bench Computers  and tuning the many World Wide Radio Receivers.

 

The HF Tranceiver is Not Yet ready for use at this time.

Your Name and Call Letters will be listed on the bench as authorized users.

 

If you wish to obtain an FCC Ham Radio License: Anyone interested in obtaining a FCC HAM Radio License / FCC Station License Make an Appointment with Brenda Brown KW1YL for an introduction and FCC exam preparation guidance. Also an FCC Ham Radio Exam can be arranged.

You may schedule these types of appointments using the link shown above:

  1. Introductory Radio Session: If you are a beginner and wish to know what radio is all about we can have a session that covers basic information about radio waves, the equipment on the radio bench, Morse Code, WebSDR, Youth Policies and Programs and Options for further study.
  2. Introductory FCC Exam Prep Session: If you do not have your FCC radio license but would like to get a license and wish guidance on how to prepare for the exam, schedule a one hour introductory FCC exam prep session.3.
  3. Exam Question Review Session: If you have had your introductory session and have studied for the FCC exam, schedule a one hour FCC exam question review session.4.
  4. Badging Session: If you have your FCC radio license and are a MakeHaven member, schedule a one hour badging session with me to receive your MH Radio Badge! and be able to use the transceivers. 

Preferred appointment time is Tuesdays 6:30 pm-7:30pm (slots 4 and 5 on the Facilitator Schedule).Message Brenda Brown KW1YL on Slack for alternative times. You may also schedule sessions longer or shorter than one hour, such as 1/2 hour sessions or 1 1/2 hour sessions. At 6pm on Tuesdays Brenda does a radio net which lasts 15-20 minutes.You are welcome to observe the net and to participate if you have your FCC radio license.
